Construction Safety Regulation

Domestic electrical fire incidents

~9,000 cases/year

Share of electrical fires from poor contact

~12.5%

Path to Fire

01

Poor contact

Increased resistance from poor terminal/connection contact

02

Heating

Heat generated from resistance (degradation)

03

Insulation melting

PVC insulation melts

04

Arcing

High-temperature arc just before ignition

05

Ignition & spread

Fire spreads to switchgear, equipment, and the building

Risk is a legal duty, not a recommendation

Electrical and fire safety measures have moved from recommendations to legal obligations through major fire incidents. Starting with the 2012 firestop certification notice, the 2022 enforcement of Building Act Article 52-5 requires that
only quality-certified materials
be installed, further strengthening the regulation.

Building Act Article 52-5 (new)

Building material quality certification enforced

Certified firestop construction required

For building permits after Dec 23, 2021

Quality Certification System

A certification body verifies a material's performance and the factory's quality control capability, certifying only qualified materials. Only certified materials may be installed on a construction site.

Eyecap Korea is a specialized supplier of certified fireproof filling products only.
